SIERRE-ZINAL 2021: A ONE-MONTH EVENT!
Official announcement of the 2021 race format
Dear runners, dear media representatives, dear friends of Sierre-Zinal,
Today’s Federal Council’s announcement gives us cause to be optimistic. Nevertheless, the large number of runners and spectators expected at Sierre-Zinal make it impossible to hold the iconic race in its traditional format. Therefore, we are officially announcing that Sierre-Zinal 2021 will be a one-month long event from 4 August to 12 September 2021.
Indeed, Sierre-Zinal, which follows the same blueprint year after year, is historically a one-day race that hosts roughly 5’000 runners, bringing together a crowd of over 15'000 people at the centre of Zinal. For the race to be held in its traditional one-day format there need be neither limits on numbers, nor social distancing restrictions. Sharing, closeness, emotion and fun are part and parcel of the Race of the Five Four Thousand Peaks experience. To uphold these values, the Board of Directors has resolved to opt for a month-long event, an alternative that proved successful in 2020. As a result, the 48th edition of Race of the Five Four Thousand Peaks will be maintained and will once again offer runners the chance to live a unique experience.
The Elite race, which welcomes several of this year’s top running champions, will be held on Saturday 7 August. The event will be part of the Golden Trail World Series and the World Mountain Running Association World Cup.
