NEXT REGISTRATION OPENING will be open on April 18th from 12:00 PM onwards until April 22nd 10:00 PM here
A randow DRAW WILL TAKE PLACE TO ALLOCATE THE REMAINING 2600 PLACES.
On Saturday April 11 at 12:02 PM, Datasport informed Sierre-Zinal organizers that the 2600 spots on offer had been filled, i.e. 50% of total entries.
Datasport noted that over 21 000 runners attempted to sign up.
While of course, we are thrilled to see such a show of enthusiasm for the Sierre-Zinal race with 2600 entries selling in two minutes, we cannot condone a “race before the race” that is bound to generate so much frustration for so many athletes.
Entries were purchased at a speed that bears no comparison to other years (2017: 1 week, 2018: 1 day, 2019: 1h30).
As such, we feel the solution that we had initially set up needs to be reexamined and adapted to the circumstances. Given 30 minutes to sign in, one can think that those who are really motivated have enough time, but 2 minutes is a formidable task for anyone. We’ve taken stock of the situation and while we had tried to avoid a random draw, we feel that so many competing for application in such a short time considering internet liabilities is no better than a random draw.
As a result, we have redesigned the registration process for the next two rounds on April 22nd and May 2nd to avoid runners’ disappointments after desperately trying to connect and register.
Therefore, registrations will be open on April 18th from 12:00 PM onwards until April 22nd 10:00 PM. Runners will then have all the time they need to fill in their applications.
We will subsequently hold a random draw and notify runners personally during the month of May as to whether or not they’ve obtained a bib number.
Wanting to keep Sierre-Zinal at the top means setting up an organization to the best of what can be done. This requires us to evolve and this challenge remains possible thanks to your collaboration. Thank you.
Sierre-Zinal 2020 is more than a goal, it’s an accomplishment!
