The Sierre-Zinal management came to the decision to disqualify Esther Chesang from the 2022 edition of the race, subject to any pending proceedings. The race management had to refer to competent official authorities which explains the delay since the provisional suspension announcement in January 2023. The race management relies on article 10.14.1 Prohibition of participation during Ineligibility or Provisional Suspension of the WADA Code and reinforces its anti-doping policy. For the fourth year in a row, Maude Mathys becomes official winner of Sierre-Zinal’s 2022 edition with a time of 02h52'32''.This makes her the victor of four Sierre-Zinal races in a row.
The race management is committed to a clean race promoting the values of equity, fairness and professionalism. Therefore, our anti-doping policy has been tightened with a set of stricter rules applying to participants, systematic doping tests carried out in collaboration with the World Mountain Running Association (WMRA), and World Athletics, and legally binding contracts to be signed by athletes their coaches and managers. All participants who have tested positive during a doping control at Sierre-Zinal, as well as participants who have raced at Sierre-Zinal under a concealed provisional suspension, will not be invited anymore from participating in Sierre-Zinal in the future.
